Impactful Leaders
John Calvin stated, “Christians should view the world through the lens of scripture.” It seems to be a basic task but not an easy task. It takes training and consistency to learn how to properly view the world in this way. Dr. Samuel Smith expounds and qualifies Calvin’s statement by defining his personal view stating, “In all of my perspectives, not that I am trying to figure out every event and what God’s perspective is on it in detail but rather use scripture to filter and seek to view everything through God’s perspective.” Often believers attempt to filter the Bible through their viewpoint. When the Bible does not align with the viewpoint desired, scripture is not useful. To do the opposite, is to take our viewpoint and sift it through God’s Word. What does not align to His authority must be removed. It is pivotal for believers to have a biblical worldview because we bear His name. He is the author of Truth. Integrity in everything we do, even in storytelling and conveying past events accurately is crucial.
Upon examining Augustine of Hippo’s teachings and writings, it is clear he consistently prioritized seeking God. He had a great understanding of God’s sovereignty. God is over all things. He knew this world would end and the purpose was to live for God’s glory. Eternity with or without God is far longer than the temporal things of this world.

Augustine had influence over others who shaped our Biblical outlook like Martin Luther. Abiding and being grounded in God’s Word allows us to stand firm.. Voddie Baucham and other reformed teachers are known for their opposition to secular principles influencing the church and the lives of believers. They choose to teach a biblical worldview on family, business, discipleship, and marriage.
Abolitionists comprised individuals who held a biblical worldview, regarding freedom as a right granted by God.. Motivated by the belief that all people are created in God’s image, they advocated for the emancipation of enslaved individuals. A biblical worldview should permeate all areas of our lives to include the way we interpret history.
